In the midst of an unpeaceful world, we pray for your peace in the heart of every woman and girl, boy and man across this troubled globe. We come before you, ever-present God, full of gratitude for all that we have been given and are privileged to share. We do not want to complain, but, God, we are tired of the conflicted nature of our world. We are tired of being fearful, of feeling insecure.
O God of all humanity, we pray for peace, for liberation from our fears, for compassion that we do not always feel, and for your grace that we know we do not deserve.
Merciful God, give us new resolve to be your peacemakers and agents of your justice in an unsettled time. You alone know what the world needs, and you know our capacities to meet that need. Strengthen us to work for peace. Amen.
–Nancy Grissom Self, adapted
I will lie down and sleep in peace,
for you alone, O LORD,
make me dwell in safety.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
